IPv4 was invented in the (long long ago back in) in the 1970s (yes, that long ago) as the first major version of the internet protocol. It was first used by the US Military and US colleges for transferring information through telephone lines. In the 1990s, the addressing was released onto the world.
There once were over 4 Billion IP
addresses in the 32-bit range, which was the standard for the worldwide
consumer market. Back in 2011, the IANA Internet Assigned Number Authority) stated
that they had run out of IPv4 addresses for allocation. What is important about
this information was/is that every computer, mobile phone, and device that connects
to the Internet has to have an IP address in order to communicate. In the 1990s (oh so long ago) The previous IP addressing IPv4 ran out of addresses were looked like 158.73.xxx.xxx
In the next posting, I will explain on a high-level IPv6....Stay Tuned
