I
had a conversation within the last week, who really wanted me to consider
interviewing for a contract and leaving an FTE position I started 3 weeks ago.
And, yeah, I am really enjoying the work + it is in the DC Metro area, which
overall is not that far of a commute from the Baltimore area where I live. The recruiter stated that since COVID hit the
streets there is more technical writer available than in his recent
memory. And that there are still more
positions available than workers. I asked the recruiter, if the pool is so deep
and that I HAVE an FTE position, why is he pushing on me to consider his offer.
He said that his contract offer is a better position most likely than what I
have secured and that he can get me a higher hourly rate. I laughed inside to not make the guy feel like
a shmuck for saying something so stupid…. a contract is more secure than an FTE
position especially right now… now that there is smart thinkin.
